2023: Design Our Future
A new year is just around the corner. Here are six questions to ask as you prepare to close 2022 and enter into 2023.
What do you want?
I can share from experience you may be chasing goals because you think you "should."
Don't chase goals based off of your childhood, education, work experience, advertising or other factors.
What matters now? What exactly do you want? Search deep. Today.
Why does it matter?
Knowing what you want is half the battle. You‘ll encounter obstacles along your journey, including your own resistance.
Articulating why a goal matters to you (writing it down as well) will give you the emotional fuel and work ethic you need to make it happen!
How will you take action?
Who can help you?
Take a look at your list. Beyond knowing what you want (clarity) and why (emotional fuel), the most important step is taking action.
Can we agree success is never permanent? You’ll eventually get to where you want to be, but then you’ll realize it's not your final destination.
Therefore, don't focus on an outcome! Focus on consistent progress, actions, or new habits.
Pick one goal to focus on this year. This is hard, but you can put the rest safely away to pick up later!
Examine how you will work towards this goal and who can help get you there faster!
Returning to our Wizard of Oz analogy, you've just articulated your "emerald city". Now, it's time to create your yellow brick road! Unfortunately, you’ll have to lay many of your own bricks.
Along the way, don't be afraid to bring along a who for your journey. There's no way you can know or do everything on your own! You need that voice teacher, acting coach, photographer, etcetera to help you get results more quickly. If I can help you in your journey... I would be greatly honored to work with you.
When & where will you Act?
Now, use when and where as a way of scheduling time for these tasks.
In my last two articles, we learned it's important to occasionally look around and look behind us. You can become so future-focused that you lose sight of the blessings of the present and your past achievements. Notice how far you've come. It’ll fuel you further!
In addition to appointments in your calendar for “yellow bricks” (or action steps), I want you to set monthly check-ins for measurements. Track your money, social media metrics, website analytics, or whatever's important to your journey to the "emerald city" or "home."
