“Excellent feedback from agents and casting, and direct impact on my coaching practice with new clients impressed by my professional online image.”
“I wanted to collaborate with a strong and facile mind that didn't work like mine. I was seeking expertise beyond my own regarding the platform (Squarespace), a collaborator who had a background in the arts (specifically theatre), and a fresh POV regarding brand and narrative. I chose Tony.
Over the years, I had taught myself enough about coding (THAT was the old days) and, later, about the available platforms and I had built a series of serviceable websites on my own. I was an early adopter of both Twitter and Instagram, but my use of both—much like my DIY websites—was purely by intuition.
Once I had time and money to devote to setting up a better online presence (and once I'd bumped into Tony IRL on the A train), I was happy to dig right in. That real life encounter on the A train made all of the difference. I liked Tony’s energy in-person even more than I liked his online presence—the fact that your real self and online self were in agreement showed me you knew the importance of truth in digital representation. (Props to his use of social media for that.)
I came to Tony at the time I was looking to level up to New York/Broadway-centric work. That was a major shift from the earlier narratives of my work to that time. (I had been aiming for an artistic directorship at a regional theater and/or an academic position in a BFA/MFA program.)
Working with Tony is incredibly easy and absolutely worth the investment of both time and money. Tony offers you a very sophisticated tool (made up of many tools, really) that you can use to honestly and accurately represent yourself. He’s comfortable making room for opinions on form and content even as he was strong and clear in making sure I was getting the full value of his expertise.
The ratio of organic conversation to "brand speak" was exactly right for me. Enough of the former to keep me in the room and enough of the latter to expand my thinking, focus my process, and to remind me of the expertise I was paying for beyond just a series of good chats with a bright person.
I received clarity on professional goals and a truly impressive site. Honestly, I was a little sad when we launched. I actually had that feeling I used to have when I completed a particularly great directing project when I would look up at my collaborators and say, 'That was cool! What else can we do?'
My agents and my friends in casting have given me nothing but excellent feedback on the site. Working with Tony has been central to my ordering and organizing my presence over the multiple platforms that casting/production does regularly use (IMDB Pro, Backstage, Actors Access, Casting Networks, etc.) so that the evidence of my work to date is easily accessible and clearly presented no matter where online they look.
In my coaching practice, I know it's brought me clients. They've said so! Unfailingly, when a new coaching client comes to me, one of the first things they say is how amazing my site is. The impression they have of my level of success directly results from what pops up when they go to christophergurr.com. I know without a doubt that their decision to pull the trigger and pay me for my expertise is due in large part to what they find there.”
