9 Tips for Digital Wellness
There’s no denying screen time is real and unavoidable! For as much as we’re all connected, it’s increasingly easy to become disconnected.
After 7 years, here are my top tips for digital wellness!
Determine Your Priorities. 🔎
It’s easy to get pulled off course. We live in a world of constant distractions and notifications. Take a moment to sit still and define what your top three priorities. They might be different than what you started 2020 focused on, but it’s also okay to change your mind.
I’d strongly encourage you to put self-care at the top of your list. Just like your physical and mental health, you’ve got to rest and recharge, warrior!
Below self-care, ask yourself: how can you best serve the greater good? Let these priorities guide your daily actions and decisions!
Define Enough. 🤭
White Supremacy and capitalism have infected society and culture worldwide.
After years of identity work with hundreds of individuals, I think what’s most fulfilling is a sense of purpose and belonging.
Determine how much recognition or revenue you NEED to survive—not what your ego WANTS.
If helpful, focus on finances—though followers may be helpful to some! Define enough, and give yourself permission to accept that more isn’t always the best answer.
Set Sleep Schedule! 😴
It’s so basic: get your rest. Be kind to yourself. I love the sleep timer built into the iPhone. Get the hours of rest you need to achieve peak performance.
Use Digital Appointments. 🗓
While you may be a paper kind of person, when you use a digital calendar (Google Calendar is my preference), it makes it easy to set up appointment scheduling with software like Acuity Scheduling* or Calendly.
Gone are the 10,000 emails trying to schedule and reschedule with various parties. Look at the day and week ahead and keep it moving! You’ll also have a searchable archive to do analytics. YAS!
Use Task or Project Manager. ✅
You’ve got 525,600 things to do. Step up as the CEO of YOU. Check out Asana* or Notion to make it easy to keep your lists in one place.
Track Your Habits. 🏆
Coach yourself! Create some gamification for new habits: whether meditation, fitness, writing, etc. I like to use the Productive Habit Tracker and the built-in mood tracker for Calm.
Master Your Inbox! 🥋
Treat your email like physical letters, or a pile of letters in your home. If you let junk and clutter take over, of course it’s going to be stressful! Take advantage of Gmail’s ability to “snooze” emails to return later, create a color-coded system for yourself, and get an assistant when needed.

Use Social Media Consciously. 💞
There’s obviously so much to unpack with social media. The gist is that you’ve got to work towards conscious consumption AND conscious creation.
That might look like turning off notifications and customizing your feeds. If you take the time to schedule your posts, you have time to think twice before you publish globally.

Mix Movement + Focus ☯️
When you find yourself in an anxious spiral or foggy daze, take the time to physically move.
Over the years, and depending on the day, I find it helpful to mix things up: work from home, work from a cafe, work in co-working space, etc. Change your physical location, even within your own home!
Another tool is taking a break and coming back. Pixar Animation Studios often takes 24 hours and returns to creative work with a fresh perspective. Please gift yourself at least 2-4 minutes to allow for fresh insights!
For focus, I really love the Chrome extension Momentum. I use the PRO plan, but you can also use the Pomodoro Extension or your iPhone timer as free alternatives. Every day, give yourself windows of time to completely focus on your top priorities!

Check out this podcast episode with Dr. Susan Carroll Berck on digital wellness.
A clinical psychologist and author, she goes a bit deeper into effective communication, setting boundaries, and challenging the “traditional” ideas of success.
If you want to connect with Susan further, you can contact her at SusanBerck.com. She does take most insurance and has options for those without insurance or in financial need. Regardless, I’d love it if you sent her a short thank you message for her contributions on the show!
