3 Life-Changing Digital Detox Benefits (Plus How to Do Your Own!)

There is more to life than increasing its speed.
— Ghandi

I gave myself a 24-hour digital detox—from 10am Saturday to 10am Sunday. That meant turning off all screens, putting devices out of sight, and rediscovering New York City with nothing but a few books and my curiosity.

It became a spiritual journey: an expedited Eat, Pray, Love, or a 24-hour Artist's Date for those familiar with The Artist's Way.

Below are the three digital detox benefits I experienced, followed by practical tips on how to give yourself a quick, refreshing 24-hour break from technology.

Digital Detox Benefit #1: Increased Awareness & Joy

I enjoyed watching my dog eat breakfast! I could hear the birds chirp in the park. Church bells caught my ear and reminded me there are spiritual havens all around the world. I savored my brunch like never before, then found unexpected joy exploring the aisles of the grocery store later that day.

Digital Detox Benefit #2: Decreased Anxiety

But when I allowed myself to relax and surrender, it was as if a new city opened up. I became a tourist vacationing in my own city. It was glorious.

The digital detox benefit: Constant connectivity creates low-grade anxiety we don't even realize we're carrying. Unplugging allows your nervous system to actually rest.

Digital Detox Benefit #3: Divine Guidance & Intuition

When I chose to follow my intuition (or curiosity) about which paths to take and when to pause, I had the most perfect day.

This included stumbling upon:

The digital detox benefit: Without GPS dictating every move and notifications interrupting every thought, your intuition gets louder. Serendipity becomes possible again.

Ready for a Digital Detox?

Here's How to Start

Step 1: Pick 24 hours that work for you (I recommend 10am to 10am)

Step 2: Notify your closest friends, family, and co-workers if needed

Step 3: Power down all devices and put them away

Step 4: Take yourself outside. Notice things.
